INFO
Bailard Ave Remodel is an addition to an existing 120-year-old cedar-shingled house in Carpinteria. The new design reorganizes a hodgepodge of previous additions and renovations and opens up the north side of the home to a view of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Subtle design elements distinguish new from old. The entry features a shingle wrapped alcove marked with historic elements, notably the solid redwood door built from planks discovered during construction and a porthole from a local shipwreck acting as a peephole for visitors. A new deck wraps the art studio on the northwest corner of the home to take advantage of a view over the neighboring avocado orchard. In the main living space, new windows and skylights frame views of the 100-year-old oak tree whose canopy spreads out over the home.
